Poland and NATO discussed possible airspace security measures. The United States assures Poland and all other NATO partners of “strong” support.
Following the violation of Polish airspace by a Russian cruise missile, Poland and NATO discussed possible preventive measures. A conversation on Monday between Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg discussed ways to strengthen the security of Polish and allied airspace, the Foreign Ministry in Warsaw said.
Stoltenberg was informed of the details of the incident and the measures taken in this context. The United States assured all NATO countries of its “unwavering” support. “Our commitment to NATO and the security of our NATO allies, including Poland, is firm and will not waver,” Pentagon spokesman Matthew Miller said on Monday.
Russia threatens the security of NATO member states
According to Polish information, Russia briefly violated the airspace of NATO member Poland during missile attacks on western Ukraine on Sunday morning near the village of Ocerdo (Lublin Voivodeship). The statement added that this is “another case where the actions of Russia, which continues its brutal and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, threaten the security of NATO member states.”
According to the Polish Army, on March 24 at 4:23 a.m., a cruise missile fired from a long-range Russian aircraft crossed Polish airspace and remained there for 39 seconds. The Polish army had previously discovered that its airspace had been violated by a Russian missile at the end of December. (APA/DPA)
