Werner assisted: Draw between West Ham and Tottenham

After a bitter and late 3-4 defeat to Newcastle, West Ham manager David Moyes was forced to make a change in the coaching staff. Fabianski replaced the injured Areola in the Hammers' box.

However, there were three changes for Tottenham, who still dream of participating in the top flight. Following the mandatory 2-1 win over Luton Town, coach Ange Postecoglou brought on Bentancur and Johnson from the start alongside former Wolfsburg player Van de Ven. Dragusin, Sarr and Kulusevski initially sat on the bench.

In the rainy London Stadium, the visitors took control early, although West Ham player Bowen wasted the first opportunity in the match (the fourth).

What the Englishman failed to do before Tottenham's goal, Johnson performed better on the other side just one minute later. After preparatory work by Werner, on loan from RB Leipzig, the Wales international pushed the ball over the goal line from around four metres.

As a result, West Ham found it difficult to get through and clearly found it difficult – also due to the slippery surface. In the 19th minute, the home fans were suddenly able to celebrate anyway after Zouma skillfully headed home Bowen's corner kick. Spurs' entire backline was missing the massive central defender.

After all, not much should happen in the two penalty areas until the half-time whistle. While free-kick expert Ward-Prowse failed to beat Vicario from around 25 meters (37 min), Tottenham's Bentancur also fired a very inaccurate shot in the second minute of stoppage time.

West Ham starts strong in the second half

The phase immediately following the start of the second half clearly went to the Hammers, but Antonio (48'), Marvropanos (49') and Lucas Paqueta (50') all played in vain in front of the opposition goal. Tottenham survived the pressure phase, but were forced to recover again in the 60th minute. Goalkeeper Vicario had the upper hand in a one-on-one confrontation with Antonio.

There remained a lack of access to goal from both sides, which is why Tottenham coach Postecoglou wanted to provide new momentum by replacing Kulusevski (70, for Maddison) and Richarlison (82, for Werner).

Udogie misses the lucky punch

However, the jokers didn't have much of an impact on the match either, so the London derby eventually ended in a 1-1 draw. Udije, who took the lead, still had the opportunity to throw a lucky punch in stoppage time, but he put the ball directly into Fabianski's arms (90+4).

Ahead of West Ham's Europa League quarter-final first leg against Bayer Leverkusen (April 11, 9pm), the Hammers, who currently sit seventh in the race for Europe, take on Wolverhampton Wanderers away on Saturday (4pm). Tottenham remain outside the top four and host Nottingham Forest the next day (7pm).
