Skoda is maintaining its offer of a large mid-range station wagon: the Superb IV coming in May.
Many car manufacturers have already written off the classic station wagon. Not so in Mladá Boleslav/Jungbonzlau: the new fourth generation Superb is now again available as a large station wagon, even with a diesel engine. The target group is clear: business customers (90 percent so far) and families. While many other automakers no longer offer mid-range station wagons, the impressive number four aims to continue the success story.
A variety of driving options in the new Skoda Superb
The engine range is extensive: there is the plug-in hybrid (1.5-litre TSI plus 204 hp electric motor, front-wheel drive with six-speed DSG), which can cover more than 100 kilometers purely electric and from it the importer expects up to 30 percent of New registrations. The 26 kWh battery can be charged in 25 minutes (DC to 80 percent) or in 2.5 hours (AC). The petrol tank here is only 45 litres. With just over 500 litres, the loading space is much smaller than the maximum for combustion engine versions (690). The TSI petrol engines produce 150 hp (1.5 liters with mild hybrid system), 204 or 265 hp (2.0, all seven-speed DSG, and the 204 hp version with all-wheel drive). Then there are two diesels in the range, 150 or 193bhp (the latter with all-wheel drive, each with a seven-speed DSG transmission). It can travel more than 1,000 kilometers on a 66-litre tank before having to refuel. Innovations in exterior design were somewhat restrained, but improved aerodynamics still had a positive impact on the air resistance value of 0.25 (minus 15 percent). Matrix LED headlights and LED taillights are optional.
Innovative features inside the Skoda Superb Combi
The innovations are even more noticeable inside: the gearshift lever is now placed to the right of the steering wheel, leaving more space on the center console. An upright 13-inch infotainment screen sits upright in the middle, and a head-up display is available as an option. The voice assistant here is called Laura and will soon have ChatGPT functionality. And what would a new Skoda be without some new contributions to the 'simply smart' brand? There are 28 in the Superb Combi, the first being the electrically operated luggage area cover, where additional storage compartments can be opened with a few tricks.
Test drive and availability: Skoda Superb Combi and Sedan
The first test drives on the coast of Portugal and through the mountainous hinterland resulted in a comfortable ride (also thanks to the new dynamic chassis control) in an atmosphere that exudes the atmosphere of a living room. Prices for the Pressburg-manufactured Superb Combi: from €47,990 (1.5 TSI MHEV) and €52,560 (150 PS TDI), both of which can already be ordered. The 193 hp TDI can be ordered from the end of March, and the large petrol engine (4×4) and hybrid powertrain from May. The impressive sedan will also be available to order from the end of March.
