Even before the official Early Access release, the hype surrounding medieval city builder Manor Lords has been huge, and it seems the game has received more than enough early praise. Because shortly after its release on Steam, it became clear that Manor Lords is here to stay. As announced by publisher Hooded Horse, the title not only achieved excellent sales figures, but also broke a record for the genre.
Over a million sales and more players than any other representative of the genre
The publisher announced via Twitter that Manor Lords has already sold over a million copies since its release on April 26, 2024:
The city-building game also broke a record for the genre: with over 170,000 players playing Manor Lords on Steam at the same time, the game beats all other city-building games, grand strategy games, 4X titles and more games released on the Steam Colony emulation. This is a huge success for Polish studio Slavic Magic, which is actually run solely by programmer Grzegorz “Greg” Styczen.
Meanwhile, the game has been very well received by fans on Steam. The average rating two days after release is in the “very positive” range, with about 89 percent of the approximately 12,700 reviews liking it. However, the community largely agrees that the game is still in a relatively raw state. The basics are there and promising, but mid-game content and many quality of life improvements are still missing
By the way, you can currently buy Manor Lords in Early Access on Steam at a 25 percent discount for €29.99. According to the developer, the Early Access phase is expected to last for a year, though the period could be extended based on player feedback.
