Many hurricanes cause severe devastation in the United States

At least 60 tornadoes have caused severe damage in the United States. However, most people living in the affected areas escaped largely unscathed. According to experts, more storms are likely to follow.

Several tornadoes have caused extensive damage in the American Midwest. The city of Omaha in the state of Nebraska and its surroundings were particularly hard hit. Hundreds of houses there were damaged, local media reported, citing police. Only the ruins of some houses remain. Photos and videos showed the buildings, of which only a mountain of rubble remained. Also, electricity was cut off in thousands of homes.

A few others have been injured, but no casualties have been reported so far. “We're very fortunate that there were very few injuries,” said Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer. The alarm systems worked well in the city of about half a million people. It saved people's lives.

In Lancaster County, reports say about 70 people have been rescued from a factory building that collapsed in the storm. Three people were injured. In its path of destruction, a tornado moved across the Missouri River into the neighboring state of Iowa. There he inflicted severe damage on the small town of Minden.

Severe storms may persist

At least 60 tornadoes and violent tornadoes were reported in five states on Friday, CNN reported. According to the Meteorological Department, the severe storm will continue till Sunday.

Severe weather warnings are in effect for more than 50 million residents. Apart from storm and heavy rain, hailstorm is also expected at some places. Experts attribute the increase in natural disasters — storms, floods and wildfires — to the effects of climate change in the United States.
