Resident Evil: A remake of the first game in the works (rumor)

Resident Evil fans clearly have reason to be happy, because a remake is on the way – and this time the focus is on the original game.

According to a well-known and reliable insider in the past, Capcom is working on a Resident Evil remake. That wouldn't be surprising, after all, as the remakes of Parts 2, 3 and 4 have already turned out to be successful.

While Resident Evil 9 is also said to be in the works, the original Resident Evil game is now also ready to receive a remake; At least that's what well-known insider Daniel Richtman, also known as DanielRPK, reports Patreon. Accordingly, the first Resident Evil receives the same comprehensive remake treatment as the three installments in the series mentioned above.

It may be fitting that Capcom has already made a “special announcement” to mark the franchise's 30th anniversary, which will take place in 2026. The first Resident Evil game was released in 1996 and can now return to the scene for this anniversary.

The leak was also picked up elsewhere and “confirmed” by an independent source. The information was shared by game insider Dusk Golem, who is considered one of the most reliable Resident Evil leakers, via the Arab Twitter community. He had also heard that the Resident Evil 1 remake was on track to celebrate its 30th birthday.

This won't be the first remake of Resident Evil, as there was already a remake of the title in 2002, which was originally available exclusively for the GameCube. The new version has completely revised the game and made it more modern. Later there was an HD version for several different platforms.
