Israel has strongly criticized the country's inclusion in an annual UN report on children in armed conflict. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today via Twitter that the United Nations has placed itself on the “blacklist of history.” His country's army is “the most moral in the world, and no imaginary UN decision will change that.”
Around the same time, Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, posted a video about the report and Erdan wrote that the inclusion of the report in the UN report was “outrageous and wrong.” UN Secretary-General António Guterres encourages terrorism and is motivated by hatred against Israel.
The United Nations defends itself against the accusations
The United Nations defended itself against these accusations. A spokesman for the United Nations in New York said in response to a question that, for about a quarter of a century, the Secretary-General of the United Nations has prepared such a report every year at the request of the member states of the United Nations, which launched this initiative through the UN Security Council.
The report is based on a “well-established and transparent methodology” and, once published, it is up to member states to read and act on it. But there are no direct consequences.
