LeBron James: “Got to improve” ahead of clash with Germany
Superstar LeBron James sees the U.S. basketball team on track in preparation for the Summer Games in Paris, but the potential isn't exhausted ahead of the Olympic dress rehearsal against Germany. “We still have a lot of room to improve,” James said after the 105:79 international against Serbia in Abu Dhabi. “We want to keep moving forward and not squander opportunities.”
In contrast to the previous 98:92 win against Australia, when the USA almost lost a 20-point lead late in the game, James and head coach Steve Kerr noticed that they were moving forward. For her co-stars, Kerr said, it's still about “getting a better feel for each other.” Against the Serbians and their star player Nikola Jokic, Stephen Curry (24 points) shined as the best American shooter with six three-pointers.
In the NBA, James (Los Angeles Lakers), Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns), Curry (Golden State Warriors) and Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers) are the undisputed superstars of their teams – and in France they must harmonize together on the court. There is little doubt that it will succeed.
The United States are favorites for gold, and in Paris they could be crowned Olympic champions for the fifth time in a row – their 17th victory overall on the Games' biggest stage. The final tough tests are now underway in London. Kerr's side first face South Sudan on Saturday, followed by world champions Germany on Monday.
