The Secret Service has advised Donald Trump’s campaign to stop holding large outdoor rallies after the attempted assassination of the Republican presidential candidate, The Washington Post reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter. For future events, the Trump team is looking at indoor venues such as sports arenas that can accommodate thousands of people, they said.

Neither the Secret Service nor the Trump campaign team wanted to comment, the newspaper reported. The Secret Service is responsible for protecting senior US politicians, including current and former presidents.

A gunman opened fire on Trump at an outdoor campaign event in Butler just over a week ago. The shooter was killed by security forces. In recent days, there has been intense criticism of the Secret Service’s approach, because despite all the security measures, the shooter was able to reach the rooftop with a direct view of the stage. On Tuesday, Secret Service chief Kimberly Cheatle finally took action and resigned.
