The director of the donauFESTWOCHEN in Strudengau, Michi Gaigg, was honoured by Governor Thomas Stelzer on Friday, July 26, at Greinburg Castle with the “Golden State Cultural Medal”. After 22 years at the helm of the early music festival with counterpoint, Michi Gaigg is ending her work this season.
“This annual edition of the donauFESTWOCHEN in Strudengau opened with a laughing and crying eye. For 30 years, the festival has been one of the highlights of the country's cultural summer. But now we have to say goodbye to Michi Gaige as director. Through her work as an artist, as an artistic director and, above all, as a musician, she embodies everything that characterizes art and culture. She is a role model of leadership, initiative and motivation, and we owe her an extraordinary debt of gratitude for what she has initiated and developed at the donauFESTWOCHEN over the past 22 years. We are therefore awarding her the State Cultural Medal of Honor in gold,” said state governor Thomas Stelzer.
The 30th edition of donauFESTWOCHEN will take place in Strudengau from 26 July to 15 August 2024. In 2025, Norbert Trauger, artistic director of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and artistic director of OÖ KultureEXPO Anton Bruckner 2024, will take over the direction of donauFESTWOCHEN.
