The United States will face Serbia in the semifinals of the Olympic basketball tournament. Stephen Curry turns it around and delivers an incredible three-way show. By doing so, he saves his team.
Stephen Curry's incredible three-pointer in USA Basketball's Olympic semifinal against Serbia mesmerized the Paris-Percy Arena crowd and saved his “dream team.” 95:91 (43:54) After a big comeback, the superstar finished with 36 points.
Curry was cool, especially in a tight final period when the USA was stuck with a 15-point deficit. With one of his nine three-pointers, he took the longest lead at 87:86 and secured the final breakthrough. By the time he was converted for the first time with 1:42 minutes left in the first quarter, the Golden State Warriors' superstar had converted six of his eight shots from the field, including five of seven three-point attempts, and already had 17 points!
One sequence midway through the quarter was particularly impressive: With 7:22 left on the clock, he converted a three-pointer to make it 9:10 from the U.S. point of view, and he made it 12 on the next U.S. possession: 13 30 seconds before he scored. Another half-minute later was successful with a third long throw.
Only the fourth attempt in a row went wrong: After Curry collected the rebound himself after the Serbian's missed throw, he attempted a long shot from two yards behind the three-point line with 5:55 left in the first quarter. But it narrowly missed its target.
Olympics 2024: America should worry about reaching the finals
Notable: The 36-year-old didn't cope early in the tournament, scoring just 29 total points in four games in the Olympics and converting just five of his 20 three-point attempts.
However, in the fight for the finals, Curry was the only American to convince for a long time: Curry scored 14 of the first 15 points with one hand, and Devin Booker's converted free throw. Just five minutes later, LeBron James contributed the first points that didn't come from Curry with a three-pointer from the field.
On the other hand, the Serbs were so accurate as a team that it was no surprise that the USA trailed 23:31 after the first quarter (Olympics Live: USA – Serbia now in live ticker). The Serbians led by 15 points in the second quarter.
