Haifa awaits major repressive attack by Hezbollah and Iran

After the killing of Hezbollah military commander Shukr in Beirut and Hamas leader Haniyeh in Tehran in late July, Hezbollah and Iran vowed to take full revenge on Israel. The northern Israeli coastal city of Haifa is being targeted in particular. Mood Report.

“We are a sovereign nation waiting to be attacked,” says Limor, 41. “A statement that amounts to an accusation. A little against your government, but more against the world.”

Limor is a mother of six. She comes from the “development town of Shlomi” on the border with Lebanon. The town of 7,000 people was founded in 1950 by Jewish immigrants from Tunisia and Morocco on the ruins of an abandoned Palestinian village. Shlomi has been evacuated since October, and residents are scattered in hotels.

Since then, Limor and 250 of her neighbors have been stuck in a hotel in Haifa, on the observation deck at the northern tip of Mount Carmel. From here, the eyes of those trapped look out over the city, the port, the sea and the mountains beyond. It is about 30 kilometers, as the crow flies, to the border. Their homes are where the green of the barren land blends into the pale blue of the sky on the often hazy summer days. On the other side of the hills are Hezbollah positions.
