Carson – Before moving to American Major League Soccer, former national soccer player Marco Reus sought advice from a true expert. “Jürgen Klinsmann, he lives here and told me a lot about the city and the club,” Reus said as the new addition to the Los Angeles Galaxy was introduced. The former national coach has lived in Huntington Beach, south of the US metropolis for many years, and has also served as the US national coach.
However, for Reus, the club where David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic once played is the first international stop of his career. After twelve years at Borussia Dortmund, his contract expired in the summer.
Los Angeles has a different house number than Dortmund
Reus already knew the dimensions and complexities of Los Angeles in his first few days of arrival. “I saw some houses. “They weren't really far, but we still stood in traffic for hours,” the 35-year-old said.
“When I decided not to continue playing for Dortmund, I thought about what I could do. “It was clear that I wanted to continue playing football,” Reus said. “My decision is not to continue playing in Germany or Europe. First contact with the Galaxy was in Germany playing for Rot Weiss Ahlen, Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach. “I had the opportunity to do something different a few times, but I always stayed. It was my last chance to learn a new culture in a new environment.
Reus wants the championship
The reigning champions Galaxy currently lead the Western Conference and are looking for their first title since 2014. Reus wants to help achieve this goal. “Now is our time. The team is ready,” he said. “I'm not the youngest anymore, but I want to help the younger players perform better. It's the little things that matter most in football, how you prepare. Because the goal of this team is to win titles,” he said.
