Cologne defeated Sandhausen in the cup in extra time.

1. FC Köln secure promotion to the German Cup after extra time. They beat third division side SV Sandhausen in the first round with a 3-2 win after extra time.

Cologne show a strong first phase and will soon be rewarded. Pauli heads home a corner from Maina to take the lead (19).

Then the pass provider himself scores a goal that defeats Renin with a low shot – 0:2 (34th place). As a result, the “Strober” team is trying to achieve the third goal, but it does not work out.

Sandhausen increases and Cologne does not hit the target

After the break, Sandhausen gained momentum and were also lucky. A handball by Hubers gave the third division side a penalty which Halimi converted safely (59).

But even after that, Cologne managed to turn the score around to 3-1 against Cologne, and once again they left the team behind, and the final stage was characterised by extreme tension.

And just when it looked like Cologne would save the game as time ticked away, Regensburg played a long ball forward again. Lewald passed the ball to Maier who made it 2-2 (90+6). That meant it went into extra time.

Olesen Reclaims Cologne

The team goes back and forth for a long time, and Cologne takes a slight advantage and makes it 3-2 thanks to a header from Hubers that is cleared off the goal line, and Carstensen fails to hit the crossbar (112).

Shortly afterwards, Olsen managed to restore Cologne with a header from a corner kick (116). In contrast to the regular season, “Efzaa” reached the finish line this time and are looking forward to promotion.

Two ÖFB Legionnaires Florian Kainz and Dejan Ljubicic were injured in Cologne. Patrick Grill (from 77th) and Markus Benk (from 89th) are playing in Sandhausen.
