Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow | Debris.com

Air traffic in the Russian capital was restricted for hours.

The Russian Air Force shot down 11 drones targeting Moscow on Wednesday evening. The Defense Ministry said in a telegram that they were cleared of harm over the capital region. A total of 45 flying objects launched by Ukraine were destroyed. Some of them fell in the Podolsk region, a few dozen kilometers south of the Moscow city limits, the city’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, said.

Sobyanin spoke of one of the largest drone attacks ever on Moscow. Overnight, temporary restrictions were imposed on the operation of three of the city’s airports. As the aviation authority announced via Telegram, the restrictions were in place for four hours until 6:30 a.m. (local time) at Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports. Operations at the main Sheremetyevo airport were not restricted.

According to the ministry, 23 and six drones were shot down over the border regions of Bryansk and Belgorod, three drones were shot down over the Kaluga region. Over the Kursk region, which Ukrainian troops entered, two. In general, the Russian authorities report only the number of flying objects they managed to neutralize, and are tight-lipped about the damage to military facilities. Meanwhile, a missile was fired at the Rostov region in southern Russia. In all cases, according to preliminary results, there were no casualties or damage.

Ukraine has been hit by nightly air strikes since Russia launched its offensive in February 2022, targeting, among other things, critical energy infrastructure. Explosions were also reported in the Khmelnytskyi region of western Ukraine on Wednesday evening. (APA/EPA/Reuters)
