On the occasion of Udo Jürgens' 90th birthday, an extraordinary tribute concert in honor of the unforgettable musician was held last Saturday at the Wiener Stadthalle.
Vienna. “Merci Udo – An Expanded Version of the Udo Jürgens Story” with award-winning actress Gabriela Benesch, translator Udo Jürgens and renowned pianist Alex Parker, directed by Erich Furrer, dazzled some 4,000 visitors with an emotional tribute to the life of the legendary artist. The expanded version of the hit production “The Udo Jürgens Story” offered not only musical glimpses but also poignant insights into the artist’s life. Alex Parker, known as a distinguished interpreter of Udo Jürgens, shone as a singer and pianist and brought Udo Jürgens' big hits to life with his soulful performances. From “Greek Wine” to “But Please with Cream,” “An Honorable House,” “I Never Been to New York” to “Merci, Cherie” – Parker brought timeless tunes back to the stage in impressive fashion.

Award-winning actress, Gabriella Benesch, led the audience through the evening with personal stories and anecdotes and gave the show a special depth. The combination of musical performances and narrative elements made the concert an emotional experience that moved many fans to tears. Musical accompaniment was provided by the Udo All Star Band, under the confident direction of Josef Baby Schutz and conductor Bernhard Hehr, which gave rise to goosebumps.
