A novel by Oskar Maria Graf is depicted at the Salzburg Open Air Museum. The main cast includes Verena Altenberger, Sebastian Bezel and Joseph Hader. The film is about an immigrant from Austria in Lower Bavaria who falls between the Communists and National Socialists of the Weimar Republic.
The open-air museum in Großgmain (Flachgau) attracts many visitors even in rainy weather. They see a rare attraction here these days and weeks. The house looks as if it is centuries old.
Two pieces about shoemaker Julius Kraus
In fact, it was only recently prepared for filming, says Alexander Gleher of production company Film AG: “It has been standing for two months. After filming it will be dismantled again. Hopefully we can find another use for it.”
The film is designed in two parts. There is a lot of turmoil surrounding a peaceful person. The action takes place in a village in Lower Bavaria between the First and Second World Wars. The main character is shoemaker Julius Kraus – portrayed by Joseph Hader.
The director insisted on Hadar for the lead role
The lead actor was made to look ten years older for the shoot. Director Matej Jeschonik confirms that Hader as the lead actor was his desire: “It was the condition for me to make this film. I jumped on it as soon as I got the offer.”
Joseph Hader says he immediately agreed: “I've already seen a lot of great Jeschonic films.”
Praise for the people of Salzburg
In addition to the open-air museum, filming was also carried out at other locations in Salzburger Land. Hadir confirms that people in Salzburg are particularly friendly: “They are happy when filming is taking place. This is not the case in Vienna. They keep complaining, it's a no parking zone again, they snuck away.
The two-part series “Trouble About a Peaceful Man” is expected to be shown at the end of 2025.
