Israeli rescue workers earlier said more than 60 people were injured.

It was Hezbollah's worst attack since Israel's ground offensive in Lebanon began nearly two weeks ago. Militants spoke of retaliation for Israeli attacks that killed 22 people in Beirut on Thursday.

Deaths and injuries have been reported in Lebanon following attacks by the Israeli army. As the Ministry of Health announced in the evening, the information is related to the weekend. Accordingly, 51 people were killed and 174 injured in various regions. Most of the victims are in southern Lebanon, in the area around Nabatija and in the Lebanese mountains.

The US is also sending troops

Meanwhile, the United States announced the deployment of the THAAD missile defense system to Israel. In addition, at the direction of President Biden, Defense Secretary Austin approved sending troops to operate the system, the Pentagon said. It is intended to strengthen Israel's air defenses after an Iranian missile attack. The move underscores America's iron-fisted commitment to Israel's defense. The US already moved a THAAD missile defense system battery to the region last year, but not to Israel.

Threats from Tehran

Iran had warned Washington against transferring troops to Israel to operate its missile defense system. Foreign Minister Arachi X wrote on the text message service that Tehran does not set any red lines in protecting its people and its interests. Israel launched the attack earlier this month in response to an Iranian missile attack. Iran has warned of further attacks if this happens.

This message was sent on October 14, 2024 in the Deutschlandfunk program.
