A 58-year-old woman from Klagenfurt fell victim to a WhatsApp scam on October 14. She received the following message in the afternoon: “Hi mom, this is my new number. My cell phone is dead, can you WhatsApp me on this number?” The woman started messaging and obtained the account number. She transferred several thousand euros to the perpetrators and only learned of the scam after a phone call to her daughter.
