Zodiac signs instead of science: ORF's new show “Look at the Stars” is exciting. There is a barrage of criticism from astrophysicists at the University of Vienna to ORF's internal scientific editorial team. But ORF doesn't want to cancel the show.
One day before the National Assembly elections, on September 28, the astronomy show “Look at the Stars” was shown on ORF for the first time. In the future, the program will be shown once a month on Sunday afternoons, and presenter Sasa Schwarzjerg will talk about the constellations and zodiac signs alongside astrologer Lori Haberkorn. Two celebrities are always guests. But the program has come under intense criticism since it was first broadcast, from scientists and, among others, astrophysicists from the University of Vienna, but also internally from ORF's scientific editorial team. She wrote a letter to program director Stephanie Groys Horwitz. ORF is primarily criticized here for not fulfilling its educational mission with such pseudo-scientific content and for increasing scientific skepticism in the country.
We talk to TV critic Press on the podcast Rosa Schmidt-Werthaler. I have categorized the debate and explained why the show is truly problematic and the comparison to Gerda Rogers and her radio show is unacceptable.
