The FBI launched an investigation following the release of classified documents about Israel's plans to attack Iran. As the US Federal Police announced today in Washington, the Pentagon and US intelligence services are participating in the investigation.
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said yesterday that he did not know “at this time” whether the publication was due to “a leak or a hacker attack.”
American media reported over the weekend that the US government was investigating a leak of intelligence information. The documents, dated October 15 and 16 and classified as top secret, have been circulating online since Friday and were initially posted on the Telegram platform, CNN reported. According to the Axios portal, the corresponding Telegram account regularly posts pro-Iranian content.
The documents are said to show Israel's preparations
In early October, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired about 200 ballistic missiles at the Jewish state. Then Israel announced a response. It is still unclear when and how Israel will respond. According to the Axios website, the published documents describe “in detail the procedures that were implemented at several Israeli air bases in recent days.”
The documents also showed that, according to US intelligence, the Israeli Air Force conducted a major exercise in which reconnaissance aircraft and possibly fighter aircraft participated as well. “The alleged intelligence report also details preparations in Israeli drone units to launch an attack on Iran,” Axios continued.
