Good Tailwind
After Barbock’s nomination in April, the Green Party initially enjoyed the highest voter turnout. In Sunday’s question, they hit 28 percent and were in some cases ahead of the Federation, which at the time was mainly struggling with the issue of leadership (Armin Laschet or Marcus Soder).
But since then, things have deteriorated on several levels. At first, it became known that the candidate for the chancellor Annalena Barbock had to report special payments to the Bundestag. Then there was criticism that she and her party had to correct misinformation in Bayerbock’s autobiography several times. Habek, in turn, caused confusion by demands to deliver “defensive weapons” to Ukraine. The Saxony-Anhalt state elections, where the Greens only managed to improve slightly to 5.9 per cent, did not provide any new momentum either.
In a recent survey, Barbock stands behind CDU chancellor Armin Laschet and SPD applicant Olaf Schultz on the chancellor’s question. The Federation was able to maintain and expand the number 1.
After 43 per cent in May, only 28 per cent of Germans now think Barbock is suitable as a chancellor, but 64 per cent are skeptical. At least the Greens standing behind her is a good thing: Barbock thanked delegates for her “tailwind, after the headwinds of the past few weeks.”
