Thomas Muller spoke with an influential post after the European Championship against England.
30. June 2021
The striker responded to his big missed opportunity, with which he could have tied 1-1. “There was, that moment that you will finally remember, that puts you to sleep at night. Muller wrote for whom you work, train and live as a footballer.
Immediately after the match, the Bayern Munich star said: “That moment when you’re in your hands to bring your team back to a near-knockout match and put an entire football nation into euphoria. To have that opportunity and then leave it unused, it really hurts.”
“This hurts me”
The 31-year-old continued that it hurts him for the whole team: “My colleagues and our coach, who all gave me the confidence to be there at that time. But above all, it hurts because of all the Germany fans who stood by us and supported us during this European Championship despite Difficult omens. Thank you for your support.”
The Bayern professional, who only returned to the national team for the European Championship, did not comment on his future in the national team. In the round of 16 on Tuesday, the 2014 world champion missed a chance to equalize 1-1 when he ran towards goal alone in the 81st minute and hit the ball past the left.
