Eight days into the flight: A new laboratory has arrived at the International Space Station

After an eight-day flight, a Russian research unit arrived at the International Space Station (ISS). On Thursday, Naoka (Science) docked as planned at the human site at an altitude of about 400 km, as shown by a live broadcast by the Russian space agency Roscosmos.

After an eight-day flight, a Russian research unit arrived at the International Space Station (ISS).

It is now scheduled to complete several field missions of Russian cosmonauts.

“Noka” will replace the abandoned “Pierce” unit (landing stage) in the Russian part of the station, which was recently dismantled and sank in the Pacific Ocean. As a multi-purpose unit, the “Nauka” is primarily intended for research. The module, which was launched from Kazakhstan about a week ago aboard a launcher, was set up to serve as crew quarters with its life support system. It measures 13 x 4.11 meters and weighs more than 20 tons.

In fact, “Nauka” was supposed to be brought into space as early as 2007. Problems always led to delays. The last unit was sent to the epicenter of humanity by Russia eleven years ago.
