Budapest – Tuesday, 24/8/2021, 7:50 pm
Lukas Weißhaidinger achieved his goal of participating in the Diamond League Final on Tuesday!
The Olympic bronze medalist in the discus throw at the qualifying meet in Budapest threw the qualifier to 62.94 m and finished second behind Britain’s Lawrence Okoye (66.89). “Simply fantastic,” said record holder ÖLV happily. “Budapest was definitely worth a visit.”
Third place went to U-23 world record holder Christian See (SLO/62.94) ahead of Sweden’s Simon Peterson (SWE) who took the “silver medal” in Tokyo. With this, Weißhaidinger is now third in the overall standings with 14 points, which means that he will secure his place in the final on September 9 at the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich.
“I’m really relieved. This was a great competition, considering I couldn’t train much after the Olympics. My first Diamond League win was reckless. I can take second place really well.” Year of Upper Austria. “Now we are fully focused on Zurich and the final of the top six.”
