As usual, the Africa Twin is available with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The new year model’s Dynamic Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) settings have been improved to provide better control at starting and at lower speeds. New to the CRF1100L Africa Twin’s dual-clutch transmission compared to the previous model is the extra curve detection. The transmission software automatically adapts when the IMU detects that the motorcycle is turning.
The basic architecture of the SOHC twin-cylinder eight-valve engine remained unchanged in the 2020 model year. However, the displacement increased by 998 cm.3 to 1,084 cm3. This increased output from 70 kW to 75 kW (at 7,500 rpm) as well as increased torque from 99 Nm to 105 Nm (at 6250 rpm).
New colors and graphics ensure a fresh look: the Africa Twin Adventure Sports has new “Cracked Terrain” graphics, and the Africa Twin has a new “Big Logo” design in revised colours, which includes all-black aluminum side panels and a striking red frame in emphasizing the back. Africa Twin 2022 is available in Pearl Glare White Tricolor, Grand Prix Red and Matte Ballistic Black Metallic colours.
