Once again, the Eagles were three goals behind, but this time they were unable to catch up. In the end, the Whites conceded defeat to Linzer, who were better and more efficient that evening, with a score of 2:5.
Alexander Rauchwald and Co. started the match somewhat cautiously. On the other hand, Linz increased his pace in the first few minutes. So it was no surprise that Upper Austria also took the lead in the 11th minute: Sean Saint-Amant scored to make it 0-1. After that, the Eagles rallied and found their way into the match much better. Anthony Luciani had the best chance to equalize in the 15th minute when he was outnumbered, but was denied by Linz goalkeeper Thomas Honekel from close range. Other good scoring opportunities for Adler also remained untapped.
The Linzers started the middle period with a power play that lasted about a minute. Andrew Desjardins still has to take the penalty kick remaining in the first third. The penalty kick had just expired, but an error by VSV goalkeeper JP Lamoureux, who lost his shot behind the goal, made a second goal possible for Linz. Top scorer this time: Emilio Romig. Villach's next chance to gain a majority came in the 24th minute: but again the “Eagles” did not want to score. On the other hand, Linz's performance was better and the difference increased to 0:3 after a long shot from Gert Kragel (27). But in the 29th minute the spell was broken: Alexander Rauchwald shot the ball into Linz's goal from an acute angle – 1: 3. The blue-white team followed up and Maxi Rebernig scored 2-3 (38th place) with one pass from John Hughes' pass. But in the middle of a better phase for the Adlers, Brian Leibler scored from a counterattack to make it 2:4 (39th place).
Just seven seconds into the final third, Marco Richter was forced to spend two minutes in the penalty area for tripping. The “Eagles” survived this delicate stage without conceding any other goal. But a few seconds later Linz scored the next goal – Logan Rowe, who made the score 2:5 (43). The match was decided early also because the visitors from Linz allowed almost nothing and despite two outnumbered games shortly before the end, there was nothing useful for the Whites. In the end, the guests of the Steel City deservedly won with a score of 2:5.
