A deserved draw against the league leaders
Vienna fought for a single point against SKN St. Pölten in the 11th round of the Women's German League. In the 95th minute, Claudia Wasser, Vienna's captain, equalized for the Blue and Yellow against the series champion.
A promising start
Our guests had their first chance of the match with a free kick from approximately 25 metres. Mikolagova took it and the ball went just over the goal. The She-Wolves dominated the game, but there was no chance of getting past the Vienna defense at the moment. But Vienna also took the lead in front of the opponent's goal. In the 19th minute, Estleitner sent a header to Seidl, who was running towards the goal. Her shot from a tight angle went wide of the goal. Bieblitz was forced to intervene for the first time in the 23rd minute. Kovar lost the ball, and the opposing striker shot the ball, but Bieblitz blocked it brilliantly.
Aistleitner almost took the lead
In the 35th minute, Estleitner had a great opportunity to take the lead. Nicole Ojukwu picked up the ball in midfield and passed it to Aistleitner. The striker shot the ball and the goalkeeper had to stretch to get the ball out of the corner. The ensuing corner achieved nothing. Finally the score was 0-0.
St. Pölten looking now
Vienna started the second half well. Nemeth had two chances in the 48th minute, but her shots were blocked. The Lower Austria team had a good opportunity after a counterattack. Sarah Mattner shot from a tight angle, but Pebblets managed to block that shot as well. Shortly afterwards, Valentina Madl had the opportunity to give St. Pölten the lead with a header. The ball passed a few centimeters past the goal. The visitors became more dangerous, often creating big chances through standard situations.
Behind after a long shot
The Dobling women found themselves in increasing trouble. In the 65th minute, Seidl had to save the ball on the goal line twice after a corner kick. In the 73rd minute, SKN St. Pölten. Mikolajova shot from long range and the ball hit the corner. Piplits had no chance.
The equalizer at the last second
Despite the impotence, Vienna did not give up. They continued to play forward and press for an equaliser. In the 82nd minute, a cross from Kappenberger failed to reach Nemeth. In the last match, Vienna was able to reward itself for a brave performance. Claudia Wasser dribbled into the penalty area in the fifth minute of extra time and shot the ball. The ball sank perfectly under the crossbar. The cheering at Hohe Warte was tremendous.
