This is how you can start the new year. Four-year-old Zara climbed to Mount Everest Base Camp on January 7 with her brother (7) and father. The family had prepared extensively for this trip. Father Šivra told the Czech news portal “Expats” that he and his children arrived at the base camp at an altitude of 5,300 metres. Some media outlets are talking about a new world record in this context. No four-year-old could reach this height. The claim for a new record cannot be fully verified.
Temperatures drop to -25 degrees
The family is said to have started the climb at -25 degrees Celsius. The three had previously stayed overnight in several temporary hostels. Some of the bedrooms there also were not heated. Father Shifra talks about sub-zero temperatures inside.
Zara is from Malaysia and was born with a passion for hiking. Her parents tried to introduce their daughter to her beloved hobby from an early age. Among other things, they regularly went on treks into the forest, reaching altitudes of up to 600 metres. In addition, Zara never bathed in warm water to strengthen herself.
Zara's father still takes many precautions when climbing to Mount Everest Base Camp. In addition to the oxygen cylinders, the family also took a local rescue team with them, which could have intervened in an emergency.
