The United States and its Western allies criticized Russia in the United Nations Security Council after the missile fell in Poland. “This tragedy would not have happened without Russia’s unnecessary incursion into Ukraine and its recent missile attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure,” US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas Greenfield told the Security Council yesterday.
“Ukraine has every right to defend itself against this barrage,” Thomas Greenfield noted. The British and Polish ambassadors to the United Nations echoed the statement that the Russian invasion was ultimately responsible for the explosion in Poland.
Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, said, “It’s been a long time since we’ve been surprised by your attempts to blame Russia for everything under any circumstances and contrary to facts or logic.”
A rocket fell in Poland, near the Ukrainian border, on Tuesday. According to NATO and its member Poland, the Ukrainian air defense system likely strayed and was not a Russian attack. Two people were killed in the blast. Russia launched several missiles at Ukrainian cities on Tuesday, targeting Ukrainian energy supplies.
