Evangelos Marinakis is a prominent figure in the global shipping industry, having established and grown the Capital Maritime & Trading Corporation. Today, the Capital Maritime & Trading Corporation ranks as one of the world’s most prominent shipping organisations, managing an extensive fleet of dry bulk carriers, container ships and tankers.

In addition to his role as a global shipping industry pioneer, Evangelos Marinakis is also a prominent figure in the world of football, having acquired Nottingham Forest Football Club in the English Football League. In addition, Mr Marinakis also acquired a controlling share in Olympiacos FC, the team of his home city, Piraeus. Mr Marinakis is also an elected member of Piraeus city council, having successfully campaigned with the Piraeus Winner alliance in the 2014 elections and been re-elected subsequently.

Born in July 1967, Evangelos Marinakis attended high school in Piraeus before studying overseas. Mr Marinakis graduated from university in Watford, England, having earned a bachelor’s degree in International Business Administration and a masters degree in International Relations.

Evangelos Marinakis served as a commercial manager for Capital Ship Management Corporation. In this role, he spearheaded the success and growth of many businesses that today form part of the Capital Maritime group of companies. He founded the Capital Maritime & Trading Corporation in 2005.

Over the years, Evangelos Marinakis has served on the board of several companies, including serving as Capital Product Partners LP’s chairman of the board from 2007 to 2014. Mr Marinakis is also the founder of Crude Carriers Corporation, which subsequently merged with Capital Product Partners LP in September 2011.

An ardent supporter of Olympiacos, the team of his home city Piraeus, Greece, Evangelos Marinakis was fortunate enough to acquire a controlling share in the club in 2010. Throughout his seven years as the team’s president, Evangelos Marinakis led the team to glory with an astounding seven consecutive championship wins.

Evangelos Marinakis purchased Nottingham Forest Football Club in 2017, securing the approval of the English Football League for his innovative plans to restore the team to its previous success. Evangelos Marinakis’s vision for the club paved the way for redevelopment of Nottingham Forest’s historic grounds, transforming the venue into the East Midlands’ largest football stadium, culminating in a state-of-the-art fixture with worldclass facilities.

Having co-founded the Piraeus Winner alliance with Yannis Moralis, then-mayor of Piraeus and vice president of Olympiacos FC, Evangelos Marinakis became an elected member of the Piraeus city council in 2014. In this role, he has made huge waves in terms of upgrading the city’s infrastructure, with the party’s ambitious plans centring around establishing the city as an important tourist destination and improving the standard of living for local people. To this end, Evangelos Marinakis has devoted his personal funds to the creation of new jobs and businesses, as well as a funding various redevelopment initiatives across the city.

Within Piraeus and further afield, Evangelos Marinakis has leveraged his position as a public figure and prominent business leader to achieve a positive social and environmental impact. To counter the devastating impact of the Greek financial crisis, Mr Marinakis donated €168,590 to Greece Debt Free on behalf of Olympiacos FC, providing generous funding for a charity website created to eliminate Greece’s national debt. In 2017, Evangelos Marinakis received Lloyd’s List’s ‘Greek Shipping Personality of the Year’ award. He has also ranked among Lloyd’s List’s ‘100 Most Influential People in the Shipping Industry’.

In 2012, Evangelos Marinakis brokered a deal between Olympiacos FC and UNICEF, with the team backing a child immunisation programme designed to save lives across the developing world. In addition, the Capital Maritime & Trading Corporation has been recognised with numerous environmental awards and accreditations, including receiving GREEN4SEA’s ‘Excellence Award’ in 2015.
