Actor Fritz von Friedel died in Vienna at the age of 83 after a long illness. This was announced by fellow professional Chris Lohner on Thursday evening. Von Friedel played at the Burgtheater and Der Josefstadttheater, among others, and appeared in numerous television programs.
Fritz von Friedel was born on April 17, 1941 in Berlin, the son of the Austrian photographer Fritz Friedel. He later studied acting at Max Reinhardt's seminar in Vienna. He gained his first experiences as an actor when he was a teenager.
This was followed by engagements in Germany and Austria. In Vienna it was seen not only at Josefstadt but also at the Ensemble Theater and in the 1980s at George Tabori's “Der Kreis Theater” at the Wiener Schauspielhaus. From 1972 to 1978 he was also a permanent member of the Burgtheater troupe.

In addition, von Friedel, whose sister Loni von Friedel, two years his junior, is also an actress, has appeared in front of the camera in a number of television productions – including such successful local series as “Kaisermühlen Blues” and “Schlosshotel”. He also worked at ORF as a panellist on television documentaries, among other things. Fritz von Friedel also participated in the Austrian Film Actors Association. Chris Lohner's last appearance with him was on stage in “The Cage” at the Vienna City Theater Walfischgasse in 2008. The two have been friends for many years.
