The host will turn the match in the round of 16 of the African Cup against Senegal. At first, Ivory Coast quickly fell behind, but shortly before the end they managed to equalise. A former professional in the German League misses penalty kicks.
gHosts Ivory Coast beat Senegal on penalties 5-4 in the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations. After regular time and extra time the score became 1:1 (0:1, 1:1). Former Mainz player Moussa Nyakhate was the only bowler to miss Bane's chance on Monday evening at the Charles Conan Stadium in Yamoussoukro. His shot hit the post. Franck Kessie (84th minute) had saved the Ivorians from extra time with a late penalty goal and also scored the final and decisive try in the shootout.
Senegal had already taken the lead in the third minute through Habib Diallo, and the preparations for the goal came from former Bayern professional Sadio Mane.
Cape Verde previously qualified for the quarter-finals by defeating Mauritania 1-0 (0-0). A penalty kick scored by captain Ryan Mendes in the 88th minute took the island nation of Abidjan to the next round.
