According to a media report, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is considering measures to slow the growth of United Airlines after a series of safety incidents. In addition, the airline should be prohibited from opening new routes, Bloomberg reported on Saturday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The regulator has spoken with the airline's leadership in recent days about potential interim steps. United may also be prohibited from flying paying customers on newly delivered planes, according to the report.
“The FAA’s safety system routinely monitors all aspects of the airline’s operations,” the agency said Saturday. United did not respond to Reuters' request for comment. United Airlines announced Friday that the Federal Aviation Administration wants to increase its scrutiny of the company's business procedures following a series of potentially serious mishaps in recent weeks.
