Due to Hurricane Milton, US President Biden canceled his trip to Germany last week. According to reports, he wants to catch up on Friday.
US President Joe Biden is reportedly canceling his trip to Germany ARD Capital Studios Next week from government sources. Reuters and Spiegel had previously reported on the planned visit on Friday.
It should be an “official visit reduced to essential elements”. An originally planned Ramstein meeting of Western leaders and governments to support Ukraine will not be rescheduled in view of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's recent European tour, Reuters reported.
Canceled due to typhoon
Biden postponed his trip to Germany because of Hurricane Milton, which hit Florida last week. “Given the hurricane's predicted path and strength,” the president will postpone his trip to Germany and Angola to oversee preparations for the storm, the White House said in a statement in Washington. Due to fears of significant destruction, Biden stayed in the country.
Biden has previously come under pressure over his handling of Hurricane Helen. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump accused Democrats and his running mate Kamala Harris of not doing enough for storm victims.
It would have been Biden's first bilateral visit to Germany in his four years in office. Meetings with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Olaf Scholes (SPD) were scheduled in Berlin.
