Red Cross on the way to Mariupol – No aid distribution yet
Prior to the planned evacuation of civilians from the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, the Red Cross pointed out unresolved issues. “It’s not yet certain if this will happen today.”Evan Watson, spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva, said.
However, they were not allowed to bring relief supplies into the city with a convoy of vehicles and left without delivering supplies. Conflicting parties Ukraine and Russia have indeed agreed to a humanitarian route, but must ensure that soldiers are notified accordingly. In addition, both sides have not yet agreed on the expected target of several thousand people.
On Friday morning, the Red Cross with three vehicles was heading towards Mariupol. The Red Cross plans to take the evacuation convoy of buses and private vehicles out of the port city. “We have no words to describe the horror and suffering of Mariupol residents,” Watson said. “People in Mariupol are running out of time. They urgently need help. ”
