Alexander Erler raises the red, white and red flags in Kitzbühel.
The 26-year-old and his German partner Andreas Mies won a thrilling semi-final at the ATP 250 tournament after exactly an hour against Lloyd Glasspool (GBR) and Matthew Middelkoop (Netherlands) in the end with a score of 6:1, 3. :6, 10:7 in the match tie-break.
Erler/Mies got off to a perfect start and raced to a 3-0 lead after the break. After another break, the duo, who had knocked out Dominic Thiem in the doubles in the first round, celebrated their rapid progress.
Erler/Mess have nerves in the tiebreaker
The second set starts more evenly. Until the seventh game, both pairs serve confidently and leave no errors in their serve. In the decisive stage, Erler/Meis show nervousness for the first time and have to give up their serve to make it 3:5. In the next game, Glasspoel/Middelkoop has to save a breakball before the British-Dutch duo celebrate the set level.
The decision had to be made in a match tie-break. It initially turned out to be so even before Erler/Mies pulled back to 9:5 after two short breaks. With the third match point, the Austrian-German duo finally secured their place in the final in a festive manner.
In the final on Saturday, the German duo of No. 5 Konstantin Frantzen and Hendrik Gibbens await (from 11:00 am in the live stream>>>).
