Vincent Feser can celebrate his first European Cup victory. Steria won the first of two downhill rounds in Santa Caterina by 0.49 seconds over compatriot Manuel Trainger – making it a double win for Steria in Italy. Swiss Livio Hiltbrand took third place (+0.57 seconds). The ÖSV team was happy with the strong result: Stefan Reiser took fifth, Felix Hacker sixth and Stefan Eschberger tenth, placing five Austrians in the top ten.
“Today’s win was an upset and it’s an unbelievable feeling. I had a great run and I’m happy with the way it went today,” said Feser, whose goal is to establish himself at the second level this year.
This was achieved faster than planned. “It was difficult because it was snowing and the landing that was supposed to take place on Wednesday was postponed to today. “No one knows how it will turn out,” Schladminger said. “Obviously we made the most of it.” Remarkably: Until now, 14th place (in Narvik) had been the best result in the European Cup, and now he had scored the victory. One with an ‘oops’: I fell at the end and at first I didn’t know my way around. I had to ask my teammates what I was up to “What they meant. I couldn’t believe I was getting ahead.” What’s more, the victory was not close at all: the Army athlete was 0.49 seconds ahead of his teammate.
