Felix Groschartner and Christina Schweenberger also won the Austrian road cycling championship on Sunday, three days after their victories in that trial period. Großschartner won after 195 kilometers and 4:35:59 hours at Judendorf-Straßengel against Patrick Gamper and Lukas Pöstelberger, the 28-year-old’s first UM road title from Upper Austria. “I am glad it is my time to become a champion,” said the happy winner.
Schweenberger beats Kissenhofer in the sprint
It was pretty close for women, and there was also a premiere winner here. After 87.5 kilometres, Tyrolean Schweenberger held the upper hand over Anna Kissenhofer in the sprint, and her twin sister Katherine Schoenberger was 1:22 minutes behind in third, thus squandering the third win in a row. Olympic road champion Kiesenhofer failed to take revenge on Thursday when she was 0.23 seconds behind Christina Schweenberger.
“I don’t even know what to say now. Of course you work for it. But it takes a lot to be upfront here. I still can’t believe it,” the 25-year-old said of her feelings after the win.
