America's First Lady: Jill Biden Releases Children's Book About Cat at White House

Jill Biden has a children's picture book about her Cat Written in the White House. A story about domestic cat Willow is scheduled for publication in June. Publisher Simon & Schuster said the book tells how the cat ended up at US government headquarters.

The first lady's aides said the cat attracted Jill Biden when she jumped on stage while the first lady was giving a speech on a farm in Pennsylvania during the 2020 presidential campaign. Jill Biden later adopted the animal — and named it after her hometown of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.

“As Willow jumps from room to room and explores the history of her new home, she quickly gets to know all the incredible people who make the People's House run,” the first lady said, according to the publisher's announcement. Willow has made many friends and is giving the world a glimpse into the secrets of “America's most famous address.”

Biden's only pet in the White House

Four-year-old Willow Biden's only pet still lives in the White House. In the past, the couple kept three German Shepherds there. One of them, Champ, died in 2021. After him the major and commanders had to leave because of aggressive behavior and biting Secret Service and White House staff.

Presidents' pets have been a source of fascination in the past — and often the subject of books. Said by former President George Bush's dog Millie's book She is life. Former first lady Hillary Clinton wrote a book about letters sent to the family pets — Sax the cat and Buddy the dog. Books have also been written about former President Barack Obama's Portuguese water dog Bo.
