For the residents of the Italian coastal city of Ladispoli, the sight must have been somewhat unusual: a lion roaming the streets of their city. The predator has escaped from the circus.
IIn the Italian coastal city of Ladispoli, a lion that escaped from a circus caused excitement for hours on Saturday. The predatory animal roamed the streets of the city, which has a population of 40,000 and is located north of Rome, in the afternoon. City Mayor Alessandro Grando urged residents to be “extremely careful.” Only after several hours was it possible to stun the animal and catch it again.
Many videos were circulated online showing the animal strolling slowly through the streets of the coastal city and across the sidewalks. Most residents stayed in their homes and apartments for safety reasons. Some remained temporarily stuck in their cars. The animal was later spotted in a reed belt near Ladispoli.
In the evening, we were able to locate the lion and give him an anesthetic injection, as the mayor announced. The lion then fell asleep after a few minutes and was returned to the circus.
