Striker Marko Arnautovic returned to team training for the first time on Friday evening, two days before the Austrian national football team’s rehearsal in Vienna against Slovakia.
The 32-year-old Chinese Legion sustained a thigh muscle injury three and a half weeks ago. Arnautovic can still play against the Slovaks on Sunday (5.30pm) open.
Fouda is optimistic
Team boss Franco Foda was confident on Friday afternoon. Arnautovic had already trained “almost to the max” individually in the previous days. “I hope he plays at the weekend,” said the German. For Arnautovic, it will be the first minutes since a league match in China on May 11. The Slovakia match is the last chance to get some match practice before the European Championship.
With Arnautovic, almost the entire ÖFB team was involved in team training on the main court at the Ernst Happel Stadium. Of the 26 players, only central defender Martin Hinterger trained individually. According to the ÖFB, this was not due to an injury to the Eintracht Frankfurt Corps, but rather due to payload control.
