LONDON – WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been jailed in Great Britain over a dispute over his deportation to the UK Supreme Court. His fianc மனைவிe Stella Morris announced on Twitter on Thursday that Australian lawyers have appealed against the UK Court of Appeals’ ruling. The estimate revealed that a decision could be made soon in the third week of January.
Assange is being held in custody in London. The United States has demanded that he be deported for spying and that WikiLeaks release secret documents about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to his fiance, he suffered a minor stroke in late October.
In the United States, Australians face up to 175 years in prison. On December 10, the British Court of Appeals lifted the ban on deporting the 50 – year – old to the United States. The case is being re-assigned to another judge, who will return to London on Monday. Assange’s lawyers are now suing the Supreme Court against the decision of the Court of Appeal.
