Greece has offered Ukraine to train pilots for the promised F-16 fighter jets. This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky yesterday during a surprise visit to Athens.
We have achieved an important result for the Air Coalition: Greece will take part in training our F-16 pilots. “Thank you for this offer,” he said at a joint press conference with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Selinski’s stay in Greece was kept secret until the end and took place under strict security measures.
Heads of state and government as well as EU leaders present
The heads of government and state of Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Moldova, as well as the President of the European Union Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel, participated in the informal meeting in Athens. One of the topics was the path taken by non-EU countries and candidates for accession to the European Union in the coalition of countries.
In October, the European Commission will decide whether to recommend EU leaders to open accession talks with Ukraine, which is under Russian attack. The European Union officially made the country a candidate for membership last year.
