Russia beat France 2-1 in Group B of the ATP Cup in Sydney.
After Roman Safiul’s 1-0 lead (2: 6, 7: 5, 6: 3 – against Arthur Rinderkneck), Daniel Medvedev surprisingly dropped Ugo Umbert 7: 6 (5), 5: 7, 6: 7 (2). The world number two took a set and a 3-0 lead. In the doubles, Medvedev / Safiulin defeated Fabrice Martin and Dieward Roger-Vasselin 6: 4, 6: 4 to make it 2: 1 for the reigning champions.
In the second Group B match, Italy lost 2-1 to Australia. Alex de Minar won the match against Matteo Bertini 6: 3, 7: 6 (4). Janick Sinner is clearly against Max Purcell 6: 1, 6: 3. In the decisive doubles, John Peirce / Luke Chavez won 6: 3, 7: 5.
Germany open Group 1 with Great Britain 1: 2. In Germany, John-Leonard Struff lost to Daniel Evans 1: 6, 2: 6, while Alexander Schreve equalized 7: 6 (2), 6: 1 against world number 12 Cameron Norie, but Jamie doubles Murray and Retained Evans. Zverev and Kevin Krawietz topped 3: 6, 4: 6.
Before that, the United States could have won 3-0 against Canada. Taylor Fritz defeated world number 11 Felix Agar-Eliasim 6: 7 (6), 6: 4, 6: 4. John Isner decides for himself the fight with Braden Schnur 6: 1, 6: 3. In the final doubles, Fritz / Isner defeated Agar-Aliasim / Shapovalov 6: 4, 6: 4.
The winner of the four teams of four will advance to the semifinals. The first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, kicks off on January 17 in Melbourne.
