Newly promoted GAK are still without a win this Bundesliga season, with the Graz side missing a three-pointer at the Generali Arena on their ninth attempt. Lukas Graf scored the winning goal for the hosts with an unfortunate own goal (70th minute). Dominique Fitz gave Austria the lead with a penalty kick (24), and Lucas Galvao also equalized with an own goal (51).
Austria maintained its unbeaten record at home this season and rose to seventh place before Sunday's matches. GAK hold the Red Lanterns to just four points and now have two weeks to regain fitness before the Graz derby (October 19).
FAK coach Stefan Helm once again relied on a string of three men and 16-year-old Philipp Maybach as the front six. This was the teenager's first appearance in the German League, where he participated in place of the suspended Aboubakar Barry. Striker Andreas Gruber, who is back to fitness, was initially on the bench. For the visitors, coach Gernot Messner changed his team into five positions and also created a three-man series. Regular defender Michael Lange was dropped from the team for disciplinary reasons.
With Hartberg's 3-2 win over Wydad Casablanca, things continue to go according to plan for Hartberg coach Manfred Schmid. When they returned to their old workplace, the Styrian team scored three points again. As a bonus, at least until Sunday, they have risen to sixth place in the table, just one point behind fifth-placed Wydad Casablanca.
The Hartbergers have gained momentum from their last two wins over WSG Tirol (1:0) and SCR Altach (2:0). Patrik Mitch (9th) put the visitors ahead at the Lavantal Arena with his ninth goal in the 10th official match of the season, and Tobias Kainz (56th) scored the second shortly after the start of the second half. After Thierno Palo's goal (67), Fabian Wilfinger (71) made it all clear. Angelo Gattermaier (93) managed to achieve only cosmetic results. Like last season (3:0, 2:0), TSV beat Wydad. After a 1:3 defeat to WSG Tyrol, they suffered a second consecutive setback at home.
WSG Tirol remain a bit of a breeze in front of their home crowd, but at least they heard the goal anthem at Tivoli for the first time this season on Saturday. Thanks to a clear improvement in performance in the second half and a free kick from Matthäus Taverner (83 minutes), the Vaten team drew 1-1 against Blaeu-Weiss Linz in the ninth round of the German League, increasing its tally in ninth place. They lead bottom team GAK by five points.
The Blue-Whites, who already looked on their way to victory thanks to an own goal from Jamie Lawrence (29), failed to catch up with league leaders Sturm Graz due to a poor second half, at least until Sunday. The Shipliner team currently ranks third, two points behind the champion.
The ninth round concludes on Sunday with matches between Altach – Rapid, LASK – Austria Klagenfurt (both at 2:30 pm) and Schlager Sturm Graz – Red Bull Salzburg (5:00 pm).
