Austria’s ice hockey juniors lost their third game at the U20 World Championship in Canada on Saturday. In Edmonton, the ÖEHV selection lost 0:7 (0:4 0:2 0:1) to the defending champion USA and remains without points. In the Group B table, team manager Philip Pinter’s team is fifth and last.
Right from the start, the Americans got off to a great start. Wyatt Kaiser took the lead in the first minute. The game was almost decided after the first third, with more goals from Matthew Coronado (3′), Kaiser again (12′) and Red Savage (19′). In the second half of the game, Carter Mazur scored a double within a minute to extend the lead to 6-0 (28′, 28’/PP). The final third was a bit even, with Sasha Bastuzov scoring in the last minute.
The ÖEHV qualifier meets on Monday (8pm) against Switzerland, which is pointless after two games. There were no eliminated teams in this year’s finals.
