28 athletes from Team Austria were crowned world champions for the first time in Orlando.
Huge success for the Austrian cheerleading team Austria: At the World Championships in the All-Girls Elite Senior category (level 5), the second highest category, in Orlando, red, white and red won the gold among 51 countries with over 2,500 athletes. In the final, the 28-man team with athletes from Vienna, Lower Austria, Styria and Tirol defeated Brazil, France, Korea and the Netherlands.
“Feeling like a world champion is overwhelming for me as a coach. The whole team has worked hard for it over the past few months, and every athlete has won the title. We made history for our country, every member of the team will stay for their lives,” says Janine Korber, Team Austria cheerleading coach for the elderly.
World Cup gold also means promotion to the First Class of Cheerleading (Level 6), with which Austria will compete with major countries such as the USA and Finland in 2023. After winning, the team was asked to “measure”: according to American tradition, they all get championship rings Made to order.
By the way, cheerleading has been a full member of the International Olympic Committee since last year, and now there is hope that the sport will soon achieve its Olympic status. “Maybe as early as 2028 in Los Angeles – that would be a dream!” , Julia Harrier, president of the local association ÖCCV, had hoped.
