In Alabama, Mercedes-Benz will manufacture EQS SUVs and EQE SUVs as part of a global offensive to produce eight full-electric vehicles in seven locations across three continents. The Bibb County Battery will supply batteries for the new EQS SUV and EQE SUV models. According to Mercedes-Benz, the plant will create about 600 new jobs. Alabama has traditionally been a major export hub for Mercedes-Benz, especially for luxury SUVs.

Pip County completes global battery production network

The battery plant in Pip County, near the existing Tuscaloosa car plant, is expected to play a significant role in the power strategy. Partnership with Battery Cell Expert Envision AESC

The Pip County facility was initially only an assembly facility. However, in the long run, Mercedes-Benz wants to get more involved in cell production. To this end, the company announced a partnership with battery cell specialist Envision AESC to set up a cell factory in the United States. Envision AESC is also said to be supplying battery packs from a new plant in the United States to the Pip County plant. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the middle of the decade. Mercedes-Benz has announced that it plans to build eight cell factories worldwide with its partners by the end of the decade. These should have a production capacity of 200 GWh.
