VIENNA (PK) – December 10, 2023 marked the 75th anniversary of the signing of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Austrian Parliament is using this anniversary as an opportunity to focus specifically on human rights. As part of this focus, parliamentary leadership is inviting people to an event on January 15 to talk about milestones and successes in this area. Challenges and developments that still require attention should also be discussed.
The program of the event in the National Council meeting room includes a moderated conversation with the Presidium of the National Council and a keynote speech by Elisabeth Hofberger-Pépin of the Peace Research Institute in Frankfurt. The expert will provide food for thought on how to address human rights. Next, experts from politics and science will discuss the importance of achieving universal human rights in a panel discussion. The last words will be delivered by the President-designate of the Federal Council, Margit Juul. Journalist Corinna Milburn will moderate the event.
